Hey, It’s been weeks since I’ve spoken about my spiritual journey. I’m not going to lie I have not been very consistent spiritually, and if you have noticed, I have been away from social media because I am trying to be independent of the negativity and the general idea of social media. The point is this, I am human, but I believe my purpose in life is to cultivate the habit of being in touch with my spirit and having an unshakable relationship with God through Jesus Christ through feeding my spirit and having reverence for God’s creation (living and non-living things).
The Importance of an Open Heart and Mind
I must say that this is not an easy task, but a possible one with determination, shear will and desire, an open heart, and an open mind. In the previous weeks, I have excessively learned the importance of having an open heart and an open mind. Having an open mind and open heart when it comes to seeking God, allows God to find you, and for you to hear the voice through revelations, visions, dreams, the church, and even people, books, and things you least expect. Having an open mind and an open heart reveals your heart and mind to God’s wisdom and the wisdom of life itself. It allows yourself to see wisdom in the littlest of things. It opens you to a possibility of intellectual and spiritual conversations that cultivate the seed of wisdom that has already been planted in you. I have learned that you can’t experience true wisdom and God’s love without an open mind and an open heart. I have lately been reading books, listening to podcasts, watching YouTube videos that challenge my views about life.
Blessed are they that keep his testimonies, and that seek him with the WHOLE HEART- Psalms 119:2
We speak wisdom, however, among them that are fullgrown: yet a wisdom not of this world, nor of the rulers of this world, who are coming to nought- 1 Corinthians 2:6
Reverence
Reverence is such a big thing that we take for granted. Reverence is deep respect for someone or something. Reverence is such an indispensable concept that allows us to find God and discover His nature. I fully grasped this concept while I was reading “An Altar in the World” by Barbara Brown Taylor. This book stretches the importance of reverence in order to understand the nature of God, and discover that God is everywhere because He is omnipresent. When you have reverence for the trees, flowers, grass, rocks, body of water, weather, people, and every other creation, you begin to see good which is God, you begin to feel gratitude, hope, faith, truth, and most of all the Presence of God.
“Love is the ability to live your life with an empowered heart without attachment to the outcome, the ability within yourself to distinguish within yourself between love and fear and choose love regardless of what is going on inside yourself or outside. This is self-mastery or authentic power…that means you become clear, forgiving, humble and loving… you are grounded in harmony, cooperating, sharing and REVERENCE FOR LIFE.” – Gary Zukav
Feeding the Spirit
For me, it’s no longer just praying or reading my Bible that builds my relationship with God, but feeding my spirit and being in touch with my spirit by acknowledging God, consciously living by Jesus’ character, spreading love, being kind, and ultimately understanding the word of God. It’s very important to feed your spirit by listening to things that uplift your soul and your spirit, so you can eventually work in spirit and not in flesh. Romans 8:5-10 says, “For they that are after the flesh mind the things of the flesh; but they are after the spirit the things of the spirit. For the mind of the flesh is death; but the mind of the spirit is life and peace…” This has made me conclude that the secret to true authenticity is aligning your life’s purpose with the spirit of God by living, breathing, working, and seeing in spirit.
But unto us God revealed them through the spirit: for the spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.- 1 Corinthians 2:10
